The Mathematics department offers a traditional major in Mathematics and two interdisciplinary majors: Applied Mathematics and Mathematics-Economics. In addition to strengthening your quantitative reasoning skills, you’ll also develop an understanding of the mathematical theory and applications that equip you for whatever career you choose. Mathematics teaches you to solve and address life’s challenges head-on.

A bachelor’s degree in mathematics can provide a foundation for a vast range of careers, including those in business, education, technology, medicine, and law. Students interested in teaching mathematics in secondary schools may take advantage of our teacher certification program at the graduate level through Furman's Master of Arts in Teaching. Consult with the Coordinator of Mathematics Education or the Education Department to learn about the program of teacher education.

Data Analytics Minor

Furman offers interdisciplinary minors in a variety of areas. The Data Analytics minor includes core coursework from the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments and elective options from ten departments across campus.
