Summer Connections Program

Each summer, we offer a fun and inspiring nine-day residential program for incoming freshmen. This weeklong program aims to guide students in discerning their personal vocation. Learn more about Summer Connections

FOCUS

During spring break, we lead a group of students on a study away service-learning program. This program has an emphasis on vocational exploration in three aspects: faith and social action, social and economic justice, and international humanitarian efforts. Learn more about FOCUS.

Conversations

Each semester, students are invited to a dinner conversation. Two members of the faculty share their vocational story and students are allowed to ask questions and dialogue with the participants. Learn about Conversations.

picnic with a professor Program

A time to dialogue with faculty members at Furman. Join our Picnic with a Professor Program.

Rinker Mountain Retreats

An overnight program each term provides opportunities for students to learn specific life skills or explore vocationally relevant topics. Guest faculty and staff members also attend this retreat. Learn more about Rinker Mountain Retreats.

Gallivan Retreat

Each spring, an opportunity is given for a select number of students to spend a quiet weekend of reflection and contemplation at a monastery near Charleston, South Carolina. Students may attend any and all prayer and worship services in the abbey church and participate in the monastic choir. Attend the Gallivan Retreat.

Pilgrimage Hikes

Offered in the fall and spring terms, our hikes provide students with the opportunity to "get away" from day-to-day routine and activity and focus on contemplation and reflection in a beautiful outdoor setting. Take a pilgrimage hike.

Community Service Learning

We facilitate many opportunities throughout the year for students, faculty, and staff, to engage the Greenville and Upstate community. Participants learn about the local community, connect with service and ministry organizations, as well as hear the stories of those in settings across the city related to issues such as homelessness and poverty. Engage in community service.

Workshops and Other Programs

Throughout the academic year, the Center facilitates workshops related to personality assessment, vocational reflection, and exploring ways students (and others) can better engage and discern their sense of calling. Students are encouraged to contact the Center if they specific interests in certain areas as we will help connect with other related workshops and programs around campus.
