Writing Specialist Services

Dr. Betsy Craig, Writing Specialist at Furman, is here to help students with academic writing challenges. She is available to assist at any stage of the writing process: brainstorming, organizing, drafting, editing, and revising. Furman faculty are encouraged to refer students individually to this office when they feel a student would benefit from more focused attention to accuracy issues in their writing, such as with grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.

Dr. Craig can also provide guidance on achieving greater unity, organization, development, cohesion, authority, and/or audience awareness. This office is also where students will come for plagiarism tutorials when in violation of Furman's academic integrity policies.

How to Make an Appointment

Appointments can be made with Dr. Craig by accessing her calendar through MyFurman and your Success@Furman portal. Once you have logged in to Success@Furman, click on the Services tab and then click on the Center for Academic Success.  Scroll down until you see Dr. Craig's information.

Her office hours are from 9:00AM to 1:00PM on Monday through Friday. If you need to see Dr. Craig outside of these hours, please, contact her directly via email at betsy.craig@furman.edu.

Before You Meet with Dr. Craig

When visiting Dr. Craig for writing support in the Center for Academic Success (002C Duke Library, Ground Floor), you need to send an electronic copy by email attachment in the form of a Word document prior to your appointment.

The document should be double-spaced to allow for editing comments. An electronic copy may be uploaded to Box to facilitate any collaborative editing.
